It can be easy these days to become side-tracked, disillusioned, overwhelmed, and even bored with your goals and dreams. It can be easy to forget the Enthusiasm that you felt as a child, the feeling of complete Wonder about the world, the hunger for Knowledge.
It can also be easy to create distraction, to numb what you don't want to feel, see, or hear.

Like most people on this wonderful adventure called life, I've had my fair share of challenges, confusion, sadness, and just a general lack of direction! I won't get into my school years, (even though they were mainly quite enjoyable), but the years after high school were a different ball game all together! I now lovingly refer back to my 20's as
"The Growth Years", because I feel I actually learned more from the school of life during that time, than the years of formal education!
Don't get me wrong, I highly value our education system and I feel very privileged to live in a country where education is top-notch - even amidst all the current shifting and changing...I just feel that perhaps there are fundamentals missing within our schools and classrooms: tools, strategies and ways of being that truly allow us to use our brains effectively, to learn how to thrive socially, to acknowledge and create loving community, and to discover how to live with purpose and on purpose.
So, I floated around for many years; travelling, enjoying many beautiful places on this earth, meeting new people, becoming a part of new communities, constantly learning new things...(like skiing, but that's another story!), but throughout all of this, I always felt a void in my life, like something was missing! I mean, here I was, living a life that most people would envy, and I generally felt quite dissatisfied and unhappy!
And, jeez, I should have been happy. I was making great money doing something I loved - acting and singing - I was getting offered more stage roles than I could take, my production company was also doing really well, I was always surrounded by incredibly entertaining and fascinating people and situations...but it just wasn't enough!
So, I thought that moving again would be the answer. I packed up all my stuff, put it into storage, and took off to Scandinavia for a while. I have to say, Finland and Sweden are beautiful...georgeous old buildings, great people, amazing food, and, actually flying into the Helsinki airport kind of reminded me of flying into Edmonton...but I digress.
I was sitting in the restaurant part of the hostel which had been converted from a jail house in Stockholm, enjoying a fantastic meal and writing in my journal, when it hit me:
Change has to come from the inside, not the outside!
Now, I know you must be saying to yourself, "Well, duh! I know that!"
But I am going to challenge you a little bit here and ask you to be honest with yourself. Are you truly living the life you want? If yes, GREAT, I applaud you! If not, you need to ask yourself why, and what you are going to do to start creating the live of your dreams.
I spent many years searching for something I already had. What?!? It's true - All I needed to be shown was a new way of using my brain, and to have someone there by my side to help me to discover what I wanted, and to keep me accountable for following though with my choices.
This is where Coaching comes in.
